Alignment means that the domain in the email's visible From header matches the domains authenticated by SPF (envelope sender) and DKIM (d= domain). Without alignment, even if SPF and DKIM pass individually, DMARC will fail. Misalignment is one of the most common causes of deliverability problems.

A PTR (Pointer) record maps an IP address back to a hostname - the reverse of an A record. Mail servers check PTR records to verify that the sending IP resolves back to a legitimate hostname. Missing or mismatched PTR records are a strong spam indicator and many mail servers will reject emails without valid reverse DNS.

Email blacklists (DNSBLs) are databases of IP addresses known to send spam. Major email providers check these lists in real-time. If your sending IP appears on a blacklist, your emails may be rejected or routed to spam across multiple providers. Our test checks 100+ blacklists to identify any listings that need attention.

MX records tell the world which servers handle email for your domain. Misconfigured MX records can prevent you from receiving bounce notifications, abuse complaints, and DMARC reports - all of which are critical for maintaining good deliverability.
