Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about google dmarc mandate checker
What is Google's DMARC mandate?
Starting February 2024, Google requires all bulk senders (those sending 5,000+ emails per day to Gmail addresses) to authenticate their emails with SPF, DKIM, and DMARC. Domains must publish a DMARC record with at minimum p=none, pass SPF or DKIM alignment, include one-click unsubscribe, and keep spam complaint rates below 0.3%.
Who qualifies as a bulk sender under Google's rules?
Any domain that sends approximately 5,000 or more messages to Gmail accounts within a 24-hour period is classified as a bulk sender. Google evaluates this on a rolling basis, so occasional spikes can trigger the classification. Once classified, you must meet all authentication requirements.
What happens if I don't comply with Google's mandate?
Non-compliant emails may be rejected outright or routed to spam. Google applies temporary errors (4xx) first as a warning, then permanent rejections (5xx) for persistent non-compliance. Your domain reputation can also be negatively impacted, affecting delivery even to non-Gmail providers.
Do I need a DMARC reject policy for Google compliance?
No. Google's minimum requirement is a DMARC record with p=none. However, Vysiro strongly recommends progressing to p=quarantine and eventually p=reject for maximum protection against spoofing. A p=none policy only enables monitoring without enforcement.
What is the one-click unsubscribe requirement?
Google requires bulk senders to include a List-Unsubscribe header and support one-click unsubscribe via the List-Unsubscribe-Post header (RFC 8058). This allows Gmail to display an unsubscribe button directly in the interface, and recipients must be unsubscribed within 2 days of the request.
How do I keep my spam complaint rate below 0.3%?
Monitor your complaint rate through Google Postmaster Tools. Best practices include: only sending to opted-in recipients, making unsubscribe easy and visible, segmenting your lists, maintaining consistent sending patterns, and promptly removing bounced addresses. Vysiro tracks these metrics on paid plans.
